Restore Your Smile

There are all kinds of reasons why you might need restorative dental treatment, like crowns & bridges. Luckily, Family Dentistry of Westford is ready to help you with any and all of them!

Crowns

Most dentistry looks like dentistry. Our goal is to provide dentistry that is undetectable. Crown and bridgework are reliable solutions for major dental problems from accidents, diseases, or wear and tear.

Family Dentistry of Westford uses high-grade porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold to create your crowns. We'll recommend a higher strength of substance depending on the severity of your dental problems.

Crowns are great for repairing damage like:

  • Lost or broken teeth
  • Excessive wear
  • Damaged restorations

You'll benefit from our team's renowned skill and the quality of materials we use to get the best results for your smile. Crowns from our Westford office can last as long as 20 to 30 years with the proper care, so you'll have a beautiful smile for life.

How Crowns Work

Fitting your custom crown requires at least two visits to our office. We'll start by removing decay; then, we'll shape the tooth and fit it with a temporary crown as we create your permanent one.

At your next visit, Dr. Schofield, Dr. Martin, or Dr. Smagula will remove the temporary crown and place the permanent one that's customized for your unique smile. Once it's cemented into place, you'll have a natural-looking tooth again.

Bridges

Your teeth work together for many daily functions, from eating to speaking, but these things aren't as easy with missing teeth. Bridges are a great way to restore your dental health and appearance.

A bridge is a restoration used to replace missing teeth. We’ll attach artificial teeth to neighboring natural teeth, called abutment teeth. Bridges are either permanently attached (fixed bridges) or removable.

How Bridges Work

Fixed bridges work by placing crowns on the abutment teeth or bonding the artificial teeth directly to the abutment teeth. Removable bridges are attached to the teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments.

Dental health is the most important reason for a bridge. The additional stresses placed on the gums and other oral tissues when teeth are missing cause several potentially harmful disorders.

The attachment procedure usually takes two or three appointments to complete. At the first appointment, your dentist will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by removing a portion of the enamel and dentin.

We'll take impressions of your teeth to ensure your custom bridge gives you the proper bite and fits with the surrounding teeth.

Then, Dr. Schofield, Dr. Martin, or Dr. Smagula will cement the bridges to the natural teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. A pontic (false tooth) replaces the lost tooth. Abutments (the natural teeth on either side of the missing teeth) support the bridge.
